This blog post is a Christian parable. If you are offended by something like this, please feel free to come back when I post the next satire story.
The Prodigal Lamb combines two of Jesus’ parables: The Prodigal Son, (Luke 15:11-32), and the Lost Sheep, (Matthew 18:10-14.)
Prodigal Lamb
I say to myself, “The shepherd’s not looking it’s time to get out on my own. The grass looks much greener away from the flock and I’ll have the freedom to roam.”
So I run far away, disregarding the calls of my brothers who want me to stay. But I’m not afraid and I’m going to have fun and I don’t need the flock anyway.
The sunset so warm begins to grow dark. The storm clouds cover the sky. The thunder starts booming, the rain starts to pour and there’s no place that I can stay dry. The sound of the wolves on the hills all around, and my body that’s weary and cold, makes me wish I was back feeling safe and secure with the shepherd, the sheep, and the fold.
And I call out, “I’ve left you Lord and you were my friend. Please, please, forgive me Lord and take me home again.”
Running in darkness I’m hopelessly lost. My paradise turns into thorns. The vines rap around me and helpless am I to fall prey to wolves or the storm. I hear footsteps coming and fear fills my heart for what made the noise I can’t see. And over the hill walks the Shepherd of Love who spent all night looking for me.
And I call out, “I’ve left you Lord and you were my friend. Please, please, forgive me Lord and take me home again.”
“Well my lamb, you have left my side and you were my friend. But you are forgiven now, I’ll take you back again.”
And He leads me home again.

Somebody wrote a really cool song with these exact words. It’s one of my favorites.
I do like this story.
