What if a man died on a cross?
What would it matter to me?
Maybe not much, people die all the time.
Maybe I’d care if I knew him.
But what if a man died on a cross
What if He did it for me?
Gave up His life so mine might be spared.
That would be different indeed.
And what if that man had claimed to be God,
Messiah and King of the Jews?
And though He must die, death would not hold Him.
He would escape from the tomb.
What if the tomb that He laid in was empty,
And angels stood guard at the stone?
Proclaiming the news that “Jesus Has Risen”
“Go now and tell everyone.”
And what if that man was now standing before me,
Beaten and scarred and bruised.
And what if He wrapped His strong arms around me and whispered, “I did this for you.”
Wouldn’t I know then that all He had offered and all He had promised was true?
What if a man died on a cross?
What if He did it for me?
Gave up His life so mine might be spared.
That would be different indeed. Yes, that would be different indeed.
“But God demonstrated his love for us in this: That while we were yet sinners, he sent his only son to die for us.” Romans 5:8
